Dear friend Lucho: Its history is the honor and wisdom of having been the first Major League, founded in 1871, when no similar organization existed.
However, it managed to assemble nine teams, and on March 17 of that year, they announced that they would begin operations in April.
The teams were the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago White Sox, the Washington Olympians, the Cleveland Forest City Athletics, the Rockford Forest City Athletics, the Fort Wayne Kekiongans, the New York Mutuals, the Philadelphia Athletics, and the Troy Haymakers.
They played without gloves because they didn’t exist. The inventor of gloves was college catcher Charles C. White in 1875, and the first to wear a glove in the Major Leagues was Albert Goodwill Spalding in 1876.
During the five years of the National League and throughout baseball, hand protection was considered a demonstration of cowardice.
It was in the National Association that the first Latin American big leaguer played, Cuban Esteban Bellán, third baseman for the Haymakers, who became famous because he was considered the bravest of all infielders.
He was the one who brought baseball to Cuba, along with the Guillot brothers, and, of course, they were great ambassadors of the sport throughout the Caribbean and much of Mexico, including the states of Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Veracruz.
It was the National Association where the main founders of the National League began their careers in 1876, such as Andres (Cap) Anson and Albert Goodwill Spalding.
Anson was the first to collect 3,000 hits in the Major Leagues and the inventor of the hit and run, infielders placed off the bases, the sacrifice bunt, and many other advancements during the 19th century.
And Spalding was the first notable pitcher and later, the first manufacturer of baseball equipment.

Amigo Lucho: Su historia es el honor y la sapiencia de haber sido la primera Grande Liga, fundada en 1871, cuando no existía ninguna agrupación similar.
Sin embargo, logró reunir nueve equipos y el 17 de marzo de aquel año, anunciaron que en abril iniciarían sus actividades.
Los equipos fueron, los Medias Rojas de Boston, los Medias Blancas de Chicago, los Olímpicos de Washington, los Forest City de Cleveland, los Forest City de Rockford, los Kekiongans de Fort Wayne, los Mutuals de Nueva York, los Atléticos de Philadelphia y los Haymakers de Troy.
Jugaban sin guantes, porque no existían. El inventor de los guantes fue el catcher universitario, Charles C. White en 1875, y el primero en usar un guante en Grandes Ligas, Albert Goodwill Spalding, en 1876.
Durante los cinco años de la National y durante los anteriores en todo beisbol, se consideraba que una protección en las manos era una demostración de cobardía.
