He played in the Majors from 1963 to 1986, retired at 45 years old, and set numerous records, most of which still stand.
In Memory of Davey Johnson
The Mets are playing this year with a patch on the left sleeve of their uniforms bearing the name “Davey,” in memory of Davey Johnson, who died on September 5, 2025, at the age of 82.
Johnson was a star second baseman for the Orioles, a math graduate, and an equally excellent manager, leading the Mets to the 1986 World Series, which they won against the Red Sox in seven games.
