Big Dumper Is Back: Raleigh’s Return Sparks Mariners To 3-1 Win Over Orioles

SEATTLE, WA — The roar inside T-Mobile Park felt a little louder Tuesday night, and for good reason. Cal Raleigh was back.

After spending over a month on the injured list with a right oblique strain, the Mariners’ star catcher returned to the lineup and wasted no time reminding Seattle why his presence is so important. With the game tied in the seventh inning, Raleigh delivered the decisive blow, a two-run single that lifted the Mariners to a 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

The win was a complete team effort, highlighted by dominant pitching from Logan Gilbert and a timely RBI from Julio Rodríguez, a multiple-time LatinoMVP, but the night belonged to Raleigh.

Baltimore jumped ahead early when Samuel Basallo drove in a run in the first inning, giving the Orioles a quick 1-0 lead. For a moment, it looked like Seattle might be in for another grind-it-out battle against one of the American League’s toughest clubs.

Then Gilbert took over.

The Mariners’ right-hander was simply outstanding, allowing just two hits across seven innings while striking out 10 O’s hitters. After surrendering the first-inning run, Gilbert slammed the door shut, retiring 16 consecutive batters and keeping Baltimore’s dangerous lineup completely off balance.

Seattle’s offense finally answered in the third inning when Rodríguez came through with a clutch RBI single to score the tying run. The hit was another reminder of J-Rod’s ability to rise to the moment, as the Mariners’ superstar continues to be the catalyst at the top of the lineup.

With the game deadlocked at one in the seventh, the Mariners put together their best rally of the night. Victor Robles and rookie Colt Emerson reached base, setting the stage for Raleigh.

As the crowd of over 27,000 rose to its feet, the returning All-Star catcher lined a base hit into the outfield, scoring both runners and sending T-Mobile Park into a frenzy. It was the type of moment Mariners fans have come to expect from “Big Dumper,” and it could not have come at a better time.

“Just a great at-bat from Cal,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said. “And very fitting, to have him back today and get the big, game-winning knock.”

Andrés Muñoz, one of the top closers in the game, handled the rest, locking down the ninth inning to secure the victory and 11th save of 2026.

For a Mariners club fighting to build momentum in the playoff race, Tuesday’s win was about more than just another tally in the standings.

It was about the return of one of the team’s leaders, the continued dominance of Gilbert, and a reminder that when Rodríguez and Raleigh are producing in the same lineup, Seattle (38-36, with a 1.5 game AL West division lead over the A’s) can be a difficult team to beat.
