Coral Gables, Florida (VIP-WIRE) – Friday to Remember – Today marks the 180th anniversary of the rules of baseball, written by Alexander Cartwright, a player for the Knickerbockers, a New York team.
That inaugural game, on the afternoon of Friday, June 19, 1846, featured, of course, the Knickerbockers and the New York Nine.
And, oh the cruelty of baseball! The inventors of the rules lost, 23 to 1.
Before this date, since the end of 1620, they played with improvised rules, which they invented while waiting for the call of “play ball” at the start of each game.
