The one paying is Steve Cohen, the Mets’ owner, and he believed wholeheartedly in you and the other 23 players on the roster. What I don’t know is if he still has that much faith in you, because he committed to paying you that immense sum of money to have a winning team.
The result? The Mets woke up yesterday with the worst record in the league. They are last in the National League East, at 36-52, 17 games behind the league-leading Braves, who are 51-35.
I love the Mets because my years as manager at Shea Stadium were positive and because of the history of baseball in Queens.
And since I believe Cohen also loves the Mets, I’m sure he’s quite disillusioned with you all and that, if he could, he’d kick you out right now.
