LOS ANGELES, CA — In the Mariners’ 7-6 series opening win on Tuesday, Dodger Stadium contained the thin air of Denver, Colorado, as balls left the park all evening long, with a total of seven home runs hit—five from Seattle and two from the Dodgers.
LA’s starter Justin Wrobleski (11-2, 2.88 ERA) had his worst outing of the season, giving up home runs to Cal Raleigh, multiple-time LatinoMVP Julio Rodríguez, Loma de Cabrera, Dominican Republic, Rob Refsnyder, and Dominic Canzone, who hit two.
The left-hander, throwing 102 pitches, of which 70 were strikes, would leave with a line of six innings pitched, seven hits, five runs, all earned, zero walks, seven strikeouts, and the four homers.
With Seattle getting the best of him, this marked just the second time for the Mariners all season where Raleigh and J-Rod have homered in the same game.

Yet as Wrobleski struggled, so did Seattle’s right-handed starter Luis Castillo (3-9, 5.06 ERA), of Bani, Dominican Republic—a two-time LatinoMVP Pitcher of the Year—leaving with a line of five innings pitched, eleven hits, five runs, all earned, two walks, two strikeouts, and two home runs. He totaled out to 90 pitches, with 61 resulting in strikes.
The Dodgers showed off their power early as Shohei Ohtani led off the home half of the first with his 23rd home run of the season and a few innings later with Max Muncy hitting a 430-foot fifth inning go-ahead home run into the right field pavilion, which tied him Eric Karros for the most home runs hit by a Dodger at Dodger Stadium with 130.

Canzone would hit the second pitch LA’s left-handed reliever Alex Vesia threw to him into the center field netting for his second HR of the night, a two-run shot, to give the Mariners a 7-5 lead in the eighth inning.
But as much as the bats provided them with momentum, a season-high in HRs hit, it was Seattle’s bullpen that would close the door on any potential Dodgers comeback as José A. Ferrer, Maimon, Dominican Republic, Eduard Bazardo, Maracay, Venezuela, and 100-MPH+ flamethrowing closer, Andrés Muñoz, Los Mochis, SI, México shut down LA from the sixth inning-on.
In that span, the Dodgers scored just one run to make it close, which came in the ninth on an Ohtani RBI double where LA did show fight, battling until the last pitch.
But in the end, those three Latino relievers out of the ‘pen in Ferrer, Bazardo and Muñoz sent the Dodger crowd of 51,686 home with a disappointing loss while securing the Mariners with the team’s first win at Dodger Stadium since June 28th, 2009.
