CABO ROJO, PR — Puerto Rican closer Alexis Díaz and the Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a $4.5 million contract for the 2025 baseball season, thereby avoiding potential salary arbitration, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Díaz appeared in 60 games during the 2024 season, recording 28 saves with a 3.99 ERA.
Hailing from Naguabo, Puerto Rico, Díaz was honored with the prestigious LatinoMVP National League Closer of the Year Award for his outstanding performance during the 2023 season. He is also the younger brother of Edwin “Sugar” Díaz, the New York Mets closer and the highest-paid closer in baseball.
