All the highlights from Day 2 of 2026 Puerto Rico Challenge

PONCE, PUERTO RICO — In day two of the 2026 Puerto Rico Challenge, with four games being played in Ponce, Puerto Rico—No. 17 NC State cruised by Indiana State, Houston took care of Boston College, Seton Hall defeated Manhattan and No. 21 Wake Forest topped Washington.

No. 17 NC State cruises by Indiana State

One day after opening the season with 13 runs, the Wolfpack offense continued its strong start with a 10-run showing in day two of the Puerto Rico  Challenge as NC State went on to defeat Indiana State 10-4 Saturday afternoon.

The Pack (2-0) was once again led by an array of hitters as Brayden Fraasman went 3-5 with a double and an RBI, Chris Mchugh had a two RBI day, while Dalton Bargo made it back-to-back games with a home run.

Not only was the offense dialed in, but so was Wolfpack starter Jacob Dudan (1-0), who in only his second game as a starter went five scoreless innings, holding the Sycamores to just two hits, allowing no runs, no walks, and two strikeouts. His five complete innings was the longest outing of his career.

Houston takes care of Boston College

Houston Baseball toppled its second ACC foe in as many days, defeating Boston College, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at Estadio Paquito Montaner. The Cougars pitching staff combined for zero earned runs while freshman Blake Fields shined at the plate in the win.

Houston (2-0) fought through intermittent rain throughout the contest, with sophomore Kendall Hoffman standing unphased on the mound with 4.1 innings where he ceded zero earned runs in his first start of the year. Junior Jackson Baker (1-0) picked up the victory with 3.0 shutout innings in relief while senior Tyler Bryan (1) earned his fifth career save. Luke D’Ancona (0-1) took the loss for the Eagles (1-1), allowing three runs on four hits and a walk in two innings of work.

Seton Hall defeats Manhattan

Jake Lopez collected three hits, Gabe Cavazzoni scored three runs and Mason Christopher struck out 10 in relief as Seton Hall claimed its first victory of the season, 7-2, over Manhattan on Saturday night in Puerto Rico.

The Pirates took their first lead of the game in the fourth inning, 2-1, as Aidan Sengenberger registered his first RBI in a Seton Hall uniform with a run scoring single to left. In the fifth, a crooked number would help Seton Hall extend its lead. After back-to-back singles opened the inning, Cavazzoni laced an RBI double down the left field line to score Shea Grady with the third Pirate run. Two batters later, Nick Tomasetto grounded out to short to allow Lopez to score from third. Next, Joey Wilga beat out an infield single to second, bringing home Cavazzoni and giving the Pirates a 5-1 lead.

While Seton Hall was scoring, Christopher was dominating on the mound. The sophomore entered on the mound to start the third inning and was spectacular over five innings of work. The lefty struck out 10 batters in his outing, allowing just four hits and one run.

In the seventh, Aidan Dill would bring home a sixth Pirate run on a groundout to second which allowed Cavazzoni to come home. Manhattan would finally get a run back in the eighth before a rain delay halted play for nearly 90 minutes. In the ninth, the Pirates would tack on an insurance tally after loading the bases to open the inning. Ty Acker would be hit by a pitch to force home Cavazzoni, who would score his third run of the night.

No. 21 Wake Forest tops Washington

The No. 21 Wake Forest baseball team bounced back with a 5-0 shutout victory over Washington on Saturday evening at Estadio Francisco Montaner.

The Demon Deacons’ pitching staff struck out 20 Huskies to record their first shutout of the season and the program’s eighth since the start of 2025. The 20 strikeouts tie for the second-most in a game for Wake Forest since 1999.

Wake Forest allowed just four hits on Saturday night, with starting pitcher Chris Levonas working 3.2 innings with nine strikeouts to earn the win. The bullpen covered the final 5.1 innings, striking out 11 batters to complete the shutout.
