QUEENS, NY — Puerto Rican multiple-time Grammy and Latin Grammy award winning rapper and singer Bad Bunny began his musical reign of 2025 in fashion, releasing a new blockbuster album, “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS,” on Sunday, January 5th.

And what better way to open up an album of this magnitude than name-dropping New York Mets’ Dominican superstar Juan Soto, in the first track, “NUEVAYoL?”

Currently listed as the No. 1 album on Apple’s Latin Music charts, the Reggaeton King, and Latin-Trap icon, as many deem — kicks off “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” — by describing his genuine love for New York, and later, hints at last month’s mega-sports story of Soto departing the Yankees to join the Mets in free agency

Lyrics from “NUEVAYoL” in Spanish

“Yo estoy en la mía, no tengo adversario, no

Con los Yankees y los Mets, Juan Soto

A correr, que otra vez la sacamo’ ‘el estadio (Ey)

Lyrics from “NUEVAYoL” in English

“I’m in my zone, I’ve got no rival, no

With the Yankees and the Mets, Juan Soto

Run, ’cause we’re knocking it out of the park again (Hey)”

The 26-year-old All-Star Soto, a former LatinoMVP award winner, and now the owner of the largest contract in professional sports history, should expect more name-drops in the future as this marks the second occasion in the matter of six months.

Last September, Dominican rap sensation El Alfa, and well-known music-producer Foreign Teck, a Dominican-American, collaborated together to release “Soto Shuffle” on all music streaming platforms — an instant hit across New York and the Dominican Republic, illustrating the excitement and thrill Soto put out on display in pinstripes.

For Bad Bunny, name-dropping active and former MLB athletes in his songs has grown accustomed to him as he included the following stars in tracks throughout “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana,” his 2023 hit album: Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Randy Arozarena, Edwin Díaz, Francisco Lindor, Roberto Clemente, Albert Pujols and Reggie Jackson.

Lastly, the bond and friendship between Bad Bunny and Soto did not just start yesterday.

Back in 2022, when Soto competed in MLB’s Home Run Derby as a Washington National at Dodger Stadium and ultimately came out the winner, Bad Bunny was one of the first individuals to celebrate with him and even presented Soto with his newly-won Home Run Derby trophy and the rare HRD Champion chain — given to the winner of each year’s Home Run Derby.

Benito’s new album will reach our youth in a way most politicians can only dream of. Soto leaving the Yankees is sad but at least he is still in NY.
