NEWARK, NJ — The sold-out crowd of 16,757 at The Rock on Saturday night witnessed a bitter end to the magic: the Flyers downing the Devils 5-3 to snap New Jersey’s electrifying 10-game home point streak (9-0-1), a mark that had tied a franchise record for season-opening home consistency.
It was the Devils’ third back-to-back set of 2025-26, and with this loss they fell to 1-2-0 in second-games of back-to-back sets for the season. Overall, they now sit 4-2-0 in back-to-back stretches.
The Flyers wasted no time: Owen Tippett in spectacular form opened the scoring with his 100th NHL goal of his seven-year career, and by night’s end, he accounted for two goals and an assist.

Matvei Michkov struck twice himself, and added to the charge with a strong second period alongside Trevor Zegras and Travis Konecny.
But the Devils did show fight. Šimon Nemec answered at 12:09 of the first period to knot the game at 1–1, his sixth goal of the season, marking a career-high. Timo Meier, extending his point streak to five games (4 goals and 3 assists), notched his 10th of the campaign, which tied for the team lead and Dawson Mercer collected a goal and an assist, reaching 10 goals on the year as well.

Jesper Bratt added two assists, marking his sixth multi-point game of the season. His point total now sits at 471 in a Devils uniform, jumping past Aaron Broten for the eighth-most in franchise history.
Faceoffs offered some solace for New Jersey—winning 36 of 62 draws, a 62% clip, the best faceoff percentage they’ve managed this season. On special teams, though, it was a tough night as the Devils went 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. They tallied 13 shots with the man advantage.

Despite the fight, the Devils’ three-game winning streak was halted. And with the 5–3 loss, they fell to 5–7–0 this season in games where they fell behind first.
As one postgame recap put it, “The magic at home for the Devils comes to an end.”

Still, all is not lost. The season continues, and the rivalry isn’t finished; the Devils and Flyers meet again at the Rock on April 7th of the new year which will close out their 2025-26 regular-season series.
For New Jersey, Saturday night’s sting may serve as motivation: to reassert dominance, reclaim the home fortress, and polish the second-half of their back-to-back record.
