Johan Santana Returns To Citi Field On Anniversary OF His No-Hitter

On May 31, 2022, former NY Mets great Johan Santana returned to Citi Field a day shy of the 10th anniversary of the historic no-hitter that he pitched on June 1, 2012, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Joining Santana at Citi Field were Josh Tole, his catcher on a historic night, as well as their manager Terry Collins.

Both Santana and Tole were accompanied by their family for this NY Mets historic occasion, and both former teammates were extremely happy to be back in Flushing at Citi Field to relive that historic night.

Since taking over ownership of the NY Mets, Steve Cohen has made it his business to celebrate the history of the Mets, as this had been sorely lacking under the previous ownership,

Already this season, the Mets under Steve Cohen’s helm have done several things to honor the storied Mets’ history. On opening day, the team unveiled a beautiful statue to pay homage to the great Tom Seaver. The following weekend the Mets honored former Mets manager and 2022 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Gil Hodges. Then last night, Johan Santana returned to the field on the 10th anniversary of his no-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals.

And that’s not all. On July 9, the Mets will pay homage to the former first baseman and current announce Keith Hernandez by retiring his number 17. The following month on August 27, the Mets will hold their first “Old Timers Day” since 1994, a mere 28 years ago.

Expected to return to Flushing on August 27 is a virtual who’s who of Mets greats. Among the announced guests are Mookie Wilson, Howard Johnson, Bobby Ojeda, Cliff Floyd, Turk Wendell, and Daniel Murphy, with more to be announced in the coming month.

With the way the 2022 team has been playing so far this season, this could be a magical season for the 2022 New York Mets.
