Forde, a true pioneer for women in baseball, spent 22 years on the media relations office of the New York Mets. Beginning her tenure with the organization in 1994 as an intern, Forde rose up the ranks and served as the franchise’s senior director of media relations.

Over her tenure in Queens, Forde played an integral role in overseeing publicity during two World Series appearances (2000, 2015) and worked with eight Hall of Fame players – including Mets all-time greats Mike Piazza and Pedro Martinez.

“Shannon Forde was more than just the senior director of media relations for the Mets, she was a sister to Latino Sports and to the Latino community. Her consistent professionalism, generosity and willingness to go above and beyond made her a true force and staple in a male-dominated industry. Anyone who met her knew just how fearless and special she was.” – Julio Pabón, founder and president of Latino Sports

An infectious personality in the press box who was known for her contagious smile and steadfast professionalism, Forde was passionate about her work. After being diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in 2012, Forde continued to trailblaze throughout her battle.

Shannon’s memory lives on in her hometown of Little Ferry, N.J. In 2022, with the support of Major League Baseball the local ballpark, home to youth and college programs was renamed Shannon Dalton Forde Field.
