Listen to me…: You not only have three Cy Young winners, Trevor Bauer, Clayton Kershaw, and David Price, but also the only 20-game winner in recent years, Julio Urías. And to complete the quintet, a pitcher who in any other rotation would be number one, Walker Buehler.
You also have four MVPs under your command. One of them Kershaw himself. The others, Cody Bellinger, Freddy Freeman and Mookie Betts.
That’s the good thing about your 2022. Now, the bad thing is, if you’ve been a winner all along, already 542-330, the many Dodgers fans will now expect you to win all the way to the World Series.
Those of us who are inside the game understand that, without a good team, there is no winning manager. But sometimes managers with a good roster can’t win. And it is logical, because only one, each year, can be a World Series winner.
I was lucky enough to win two Series with the Reds (1975 and 1976) and one with the Tigers (1984). And I was one of the first managers to use the bullpen a lot. They said I handled my pitchers well. I say they threw very well.
You have the skills to get out of pitching conflicts, not just in the game, but off the field, like injuries and suspensions. In your first season, 2016, you had 28 injuries and made 606 pitching changes.
I have been in this peaceful and heavenly Hereafter for 12 years, which you call Beyond. And in these dozen years the way pitchers are used has changed. It’s more work for the managers. Now more than ever you have the responsibilities of each out.
But you, my dear Dave, have an advantage over the other 29 managers, and that is that you have, because you inherited it, admirable Asian patience. That is very important in your mission.
By the way, being a native of Japan and the son of a black American and a Japanese, you are the first manager of the Dodgers who is not a white American. That is historical.

También tienes bajo tu mando a cuatro Más Valiosos. Uno de ellos el mismo Kershaw. Los otros, Cody Bellinger, Freddy Freeman y Mookie Betts.
Eso es lo bueno de tu 2022. Ahora, lo malo es que, si has sido ganador todo el tiempo, ya con record de 542-330, los numerosos fanáticos de los Dodgers esperarán que ahora ganes hasta la Serie Mundial.
Los que estamos dentro de la jugada comprendemos que, sin un buen equipo no hay mánager de gane. Pero a veces no pueden ganar los mánagers que tienen buen róster. Y es lógico, porque solo uno, cada año, puede ser ganador de la Serie Mundial.
Yo tuve la suerte de ganar dos Series con los Rojos (1975 y 1976) y una con los Tigres (1984). Y fui de los primeros mánagers en utilizar el bullpén en gran cantidad. Decían que yo manejaba bien a mis pitchers. Yo digo que ellos lanzaban muy bien.

Hace 12 años estoy en este apacible y celestial Más Acá, que ustedes llaman Más Allá. Y en esta docena de años ha cambiado la forma de utilizar a los pitchers. Es más trabajo para los mánagers. Ahora más que nunca tienen ustedes las responsabilidades de cada out.
Pero tu, mi querido Dave, tienes una ventaja sobre los otros 29 mánagers, y es que posees, porque la heredaste, una paciencia asiática admirable. Eso es muy importante en tu misión.
Por cierto, al ser nativo de Japón e hijo de negro estadounidense y de japonesa, eres el primer mánager de los Dodgers que no es blanco estadounidense. Eso es histórico.
Tus Dodgers han llegado a la postemporada seis años seguidos y tres veces a la Serie Mundial, con una ganada, la de 2020 sobre los Rays.
