LOS ANGELES, CA — The spotlight is shining a little brighter on USC’s offensive line this week. Redshirt sophomore Micah Banuelos has been named to the inaugural Hispanic College Football Player of the Year Watch List, an honor presented by the Hispanic Football Hall of Fame.

The recognition highlights 15 standout college athletes of Hispanic heritage who are making major contributions on the field in 2025. For Banuelos, a Washington native with Mexican roots, it’s another milestone in a season where he’s become a critical piece of USC’s high-powered attack.

Through the Trojans’ first five games, Banuelos has logged nearly 200 snaps, including starts against Georgia Southern and Illinois. His work in the trenches has been pivotal. Banuelos has contributed to the Trojans’ average of 338.0 passing yards and 227.0 running yards per game in USC’s explosive offense. With an average of 48.4 points per game, USC is ranked third in the country for scoring offense. USC quarterback Jayden Maiava has gone 98-for-139 (.705) for 1,587 yards and 11 touchdowns.

So far this season, Banuelos’ run blocking has given seven different Trojans a total of 17 running touchdowns. Maiava has only been sacked three times all season, demonstrating how well the line has protected him.

For Banuelos, the honor carries significance beyond the numbers. The Hispanic Football Hall of Fame, founded earlier this year, was created to preserve the history and amplify the achievements of Hispanic players, coaches, and contributors across the sport. Its mission: to showcase excellence and inspire the next generation of athletes.

With his name now etched among the Watch List’s elite, Banuelos not only represents USC’s tradition of dominance in the trenches but also serves as a beacon for Hispanic athletes striving to make their mark in college football.
