BRONX, NY — The New York Yankees offense assaulted the Baltimore Orioles to the tune of 20 runs in two games this past weekend (Saturday and Sunday). The Yankees have made it known that they’re the best team in the American League at 23-11. As for the Orioles, Baltimore entered this series five games behind the Yankees, and have since suffered three straight loses.
The power bats from the Bronx Bombers have been at the forefront of the attack and that was highlighted by Cody Bellinger’s two home run performance on Saturday—a game where he also had a single, double, and four RBI.
“The one thing I like about Bellinger this year is that he is more patient at the plate,” Boone said after Saturday’s 9-3 win. “One of his super powers is that ability to put the ball in play with two strikes. He did it again today. He is keeping it under control, knowing how valuable it is when he is on base as well. I feel he struck that balance pretty well. Today was a big-time day.”
Like Bellinger, Trent Grisham had a productive Saturday at the ballpark, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, double, a walk, and two RBI. Ryan Weathers was solid with five innings of three-run ball, which wasn’t helped by his defense as he only gave up one earned run while the other two were unearned. The bullpen was strong with one earned run allowed across four innings of work.

Weathers, fanning five, picked up the win and is making his case to stay in the rotation when the Yankees healthy studs, Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón return in the near future. Although Boone didn’t want to speculate into any of that, stating, “He had a lot of different ways to get people out tonight. The fastball changeup and sweeper were all working really well. Maybe ran out of a little steam there but to get us into the sixth inning, that was really nice by him.”
The Yankees turned the page Sunday with another big decision in regards to the activation of Anthony Volpe. Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone decided to extend Volpe’s rehab to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and not have him return to MLB yet. A decision that was made based on Volpe’s progress and the factor of José Caballero playing so well to hold onto to the shortstop job.

“Well, one, Caballero’s playing the heck out of the position and playing really well, so that complicates it,” Boone noted. “Just deciding, what’s the role that exists right away? Those are things we’ve got to continue to work through.”
On the field, things were status quo for the Yankees with more AL East division domination, moving to 6-0 in AL East matchups after their 11-3 victory Sunday that was carried by home runs from their two best hitters in 2026 which are Aaron Judge and Ben Rice.
Rice hit the first home run of the game, getting the Yankees off to a 1-0 lead in the first and Judge added on two runs in the third with a blast of his own. The Yankees were up 3-0 and never looked back after that.

In the eighth, Jasson Domínguez joined the mix of Rice and Judge by hitting his first home run of the MLB 2026 regular season and later in the inning recorded a double from the opposite side of the plate.
The 2025 American League LatinoMVP Rookie of the Year was 3-for-5 overall with a home run, two doubles and three RBI.

“When you play a good game like that and you win, it’s always awesome,” Domínguez said.
“Every time you get a base hit, anything good, the confidence is up.”
