The Martian Lands in LatinoMVP System: Jasson Domínguez receives 2025 AL LatinoMVP Rookie of the Year Award

BRONX, NY — Jasson Domínguez was blown away upon receiving the 2025 American League LatinoMVP Rookie of the Year Award Wednesday night prior to the Yankees defeating the Rockies, 6-1, at Yankee Stadium. 

​“I wasn’t expecting it, but for him to do this is great. I see it now and it looks just like me. It’s amazing,” said a smiling Domínguez as artist Maz Adams and Latino Sports presented the 23-year-old of Esperanza, Dominican Republic with his one of a kind award after the Yankees finished up batting practice. 

Known as a “Latin Grammy of Baseball,” the LatinoMVP awards, which began in 1990 continuing for each MLB season, with this year marking its 36th annual year, are the oldest and most prestigious awards earned by Latinos in the sport. 

Domínguez joins a distinguished list of Yankees who have earned a LatinoMVP honor in pinstripes, such as Carlos Rodón, who received the 2025 AL LatinoMVP Starting Pitcher of the Year Award later Wednesday night, Juan Soto (2024), Luis Gil (2024), and Nestor Cortes (2022), Jonathan Loáisiga (2021), Aroldis Chapman (2019), Gleyber Torres (2019), Gary Sánchez (2016), and Robinson Canó (2011 & 2010), among many others.  

Mariano Rivera has won the most LatinoMVP Awards all-time for a Yankees player and the most ever for a reliever. 

​“It’s an honor to be part of this list for sure, and those guys that you’ve mentioned are big names in the sport and they have done so much for us,” the switch-hitting outfielder said. 

In 2019, Domínguez, nicknamed “The Martian,” was the Yankees’ top international prospect out of Esperanza, Dominican Republic, signing for a franchise record $5.1 million dollars. 

A kid who’s had a microscope on him since he was 16-years-old as he had to leave his family to chase his dream of being a Major Leaguer. 

​“It’s incredible, thank you guys for recognizing me,” Domínguez said. “For every Latin player, it’s a little different for us and we’ve come a long way and I really appreciate the recognition.” 

Dominguez is familiar with facing adversity head on, dealing with several big injuries dating back to his debut season in 2023. After getting off to a red-hot start with four home runs over his first eight career games in The Show, the rug was pulled from under him due to Tommy John surgery and the dream he had worked his whole life for was put on pause. 

​In 2024, making in August, Domínguez barely played in the Majors, compiling just 67 at-bats because of the recovery from surgery and a crowded outfield that did include Soto at the time, a fellow Dominican and three-time LatinoMVP. 

​“The thing that I learned that I think is the most important is that everything matters, I pay attention to (all the) details. It’s really important,” Domínguez said. “Obviously, in the big leagues, because every game matters.” 

2025 was finally his long-awaited rookie season due to eligibility rules and games played—a season in which Domínguez had 10 home runs (6th in AL amongst rookies), 47 RBI (6th), 23 stolen bases (3rd) and a slash line of .257/.331/.388 in 429 at-bats.

​The future may indeed be unclear for The Martian however Domínguez will forever hold a place in Yankees lore as a LatinoMVP Award recipient. 

And no one can ever take that away from him.
