NEW YORK, NY — Cleveland then. Cleveland now. Cleveland forever.

One of the best athletes in the sport, José Ramírez, a seven-time MLB All-Star, and the Guardians reportedly agreed to terms on a new seven-year contract extension of $175 million over the weekend, keeping the Baní, Dominican Republic native in Cleveland for the long term and perhaps the entirety of his professional playing career.

The 33-year-old switch hitting third baseman Ramírez, the first active athlete to have a street named after him in Cleveland, inked a seven-year contract extension with the Guardians back in 2022 for $141 million. Now for this new restructured deal, Ramírez and his camp were able to add another four years and a total of $106 million on top of it.

“Anytime Hosey’s on the field, I love watching him play,” Guardians president Chris Antonetti said of Ramírez to MLB.com this past summer. “In the batter’s box, when he’s on the bases, defensively. It’s every facet.”

“He is really a special player, and someone I definitely don’t take for granted. It’s been a privilege and honor to get to watch him play for the last 12 Major League seasons and then a handful of seasons before that in the Minor Leagues. He’s a joy to watch.”

A joy to watch would simply be an understatement when analyzing the Dominican superstar’s game as the six-time Silver Slugger award winner is the depiction of a five-tool player and a true leader for others whether it be on or off the playing diamond.
