On Monday, one of the best switch-hitters in the game, Anthony Santander, Venezuela’s finest, reportedly signed a five-year/$92.5 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Taking home an annual average value (AAV) of $18.5 million from 2025-2030, Santander’s newest contract includes a player option after the third season, and a club-option for the sixth year, which could make for the overall value on the deal to top out to $110 million. It was later revealed that the contract includes heavy deferrals, over one-third of the deal.

For the Blue Jays and Santander, this move results as a perfect fit from both sides. A powerful switch-hitter, who can get slotted in as a designated hitter, play either corner outfield position, or man first base. Additionally, one who reportedly preferred to remain on the east coast.

The 30-year-old, a former Baltimore Oriole, spending his whole MLB career as an O, debuting in 2017, joins a Blue Jays lineup headlined by Dominican sensation Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a former AL LatinoMVP from 2021, and Brazilian-American star shortstop Bo Bichette.

As it stands today, the Blue Jays have most definitely improved their offensive prowess from a year ago. However, in an American League East division front-lined by the New York Yankees, and Orioles, much more will have to be done, especially in the bottom third of their starting lineup and also, within their bullpen.
