MILWAUKEE, WI — “There’s nothing he can’t do on the baseball field.”

“He’s just coming into his own.”

“I remember peeping up and seeing when 11 was coming up to the dish and was like, ‘we gotta pass the bat to get it to him.’”

Over his first three years in the bigs across 2024, 2025 and 2026, recording back-to-back-back 20+ home run-20+ stolen base seasons, Venezuelan superstar Jackson Chourio earned and received praises from many in and out of Milwaukee’s clubhouse. Across his homeland, too, helping Venezuela win the 2026 World Baseball Classic, its first-ever championship in WBC history.

Brewers captain Christian Yelich, manager Pat Murphy and right fielder Sal Frelick, each witnessing the left fielder Chourio come into his own as Milwaukee’s face of the franchise at the young age of 22, were the three front and center Sunday night crediting the Maracaibo, Venezuela native for his Game 2 walk-off heroics in the National League Division Series against the Padres.

To send the Brewers to San Diego up 2-0 and flip Family Rate Field upside down with 41,683 fans shocked on what just took place, Chourio did not just deliver in the clutch, but in the clutch against the best closer in the game—Padres flamethrower Mason Miller—while down to his final strike with two outs and bases loaded in the ninth inning of a 3-2 ballgame.

Postseason Poetry as his mother and father were in attendance to witness it all.

“In that moment really, I was thinking of my family,” said Chourio (22 and 80 days old), becoming the second-youngest player in MLB history with a postseason walk-off hit, behind only Colombian Édgar Rentería (22 and 54 days old) who secured the 1997 World Series title for the Marlins on a walk-off single in Game 7 against the Indians.

“Very fortunate to have my mom and dad here to support me. I dedicate this hit to them, for sure. It made me really happy to know that they were here and knowing how happy it made them up in the stands.”

Happy, too, is all of Milwaukee and Brewers fans, now one win away from clinching a spot in the National League Championship Series for a second consecutive year, thanks to one swing from Chourio.

“What’s most gratifying to see is how many of our great fans came out to see that one and got to enjoy it themselves,” Murphy added, with this best of five NLDS now moving to San Diego and resuming Tuesday night, October 6th at Petco Park. “Just happy for the club and happy for the city that they got to witness something so special.”

And about Milwaukee’s 22-year-old franchise superstar, the 2024 NL LatinoMVP Rookie of the Year Award winner?

Murphy said, “I think he’s turning into a bonafide top-flight player. I couldn’t be happier for him because he brings it every day.”
