ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Texas Rangers recently announced that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Alexis Díaz to a one-year Major League contract covering the 2026 season.
Díaz, 29, spent the 2025 season with the Cincinnati, Los Angeles-NL, and Atlanta organizations, going 1-0 with an 8.15 ERA (16 ER/17.2 IP), 12 walks, and 17 strikeouts in 18 MLB relief appearances while also registering 27 outings at the Triple-A level. He was traded from the Reds to the Dodgers on May 29 for right-handed pitcher Mike Villani, then was claimed off waivers by the Braves on September 7 after Los Angeles-NL designated him for assignment. The Humacao, Puerto Rico native limited Major League bats to a .221 (15-68) average last season.

In four Major League seasons from 2022-25 with Cincinnati (2022-25), Los Angeles-NL (2025), and Atlanta (2025), Díaz is 19-14 with 75 saves, a 3.38 ERA (77 ER/205.0 IP), 1.18 WHIP, and 241 strikeouts in 208 relief appearances. Among MLB relievers with 200-or-more games pitched since 2022, he ranks 5th in opponent batting average (.179) and 7th in opponent slugging percentage (.304). Named a 2023 N.L. All-Star with Cincinnati, Díaz ranked 4th in the Majors with 37 saves that season and finished 121 games from 2022-24, 10th most in MLB during that span.
Originally selected in the 12th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Reds from Juan Jose Maunez High School in Puerto Rico, the right-hander pitched in parts of five minor league seasons before making his MLB debut with Cincinnati on April 8, 2022 at Atlanta. Alexis is the younger brother of three-time All-Star selection Edwin Díaz.
