NEWARK, NJ — In a resounding display of resilience, the New Jersey Devils bounced back from their earlier defeat to the Philadelphia Flyers with a commanding 5-0 shutout on Wednesday night at the Prudential Center. This victory not only avenged their prior loss but also showcased the team’s depth and determination.
The Devils’ offense ignited in the second period, netting four goals that left the Flyers scrambling. Brothers Jack and Luke Hughes led the charge, each contributing a goal and an assist. Jack Hughes reached a milestone, securing his 20th goal of the season early in the third period, marking the fourth time in his career he’s hit this benchmark.

Goaltender Jake Allen was a fortress between the pipes, stopping all 24 shots he faced to earn his third shutout of the season and the 27th of his career. His performance was particularly pivotal in the first period, where he thwarted early attempts by Sean Couturier and denied Tyson Foerster on a breakaway, setting the tone for the game.
The Devils’ power play was lethal, with Ondrej Palat and Nathan Bastian capitalizing on opportunities to extend the lead. Dawson Mercer also found the back of the net, contributing to the offensive onslaught. Assists from Timo Meier, Brett Pesce, and Jesper Bratt highlighted the team’s collaborative effort.
This dominant performance was a stark contrast to their 4-2 loss to the Flyers earlier in the week. The Devils showcased their ability to learn and adapt, tightening their defense and amplifying their offensive pressure. Despite the absence of captain Nico Hischier due to an upper-body injury, the team demonstrated depth and resilience, with multiple players stepping up to fill the void.
The Flyers’ goaltending duo struggled to contain the Devils’ relentless attack. Starter Samuel Ersson was pulled after allowing four goals on 16 shots, and his replacement, Ivan Fedotov, conceded an additional goal, highlighting the Devils’ offensive prowess.
This victory marks the Devils’ third win in their last four games, reinforcing their position in the standings and sending a clear message to their rivals. As they look ahead, the team aims to build on this momentum and continue their pursuit of excellence.
