NEW YORK, NY — Major news across the world of baseball broke prior to noon eastern time on Tuesday out of Orlando, Florida, with two-time LatinoMVP Reliever of the Year Edwin Díaz and the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly agreeing to a three-year deal worth a grand total of $69 million.
With an average annual value of $23 million according to several reports, the largest AAV ever by a reliever in MLB history, Díaz’s newest contract with LA will run from 2026-2028.

As the rich get richer in Hollywood, the Dodgers’ bullpen is now headlined by the right-handed flamethrower in Díaz along with a combination of LHP Tanner Scott, RHP Will Klein, LHP Alex Vesia, and RHP Blake Treinen. Among others are RHP Edgardo Henriquez, LHP Jack Dreyer, RHP Ben Casparius and potentially RHP Roki Sasaski, who transitioned from a starter to a reliever throughout the latter course of 2025.
Díaz, 31, of Naguabo, Puerto Rico, earning the stripes as the best closer in baseball during his time in Queens from 2019-2025, pitched to a 2.93 ERA in orange and blue across 332 appearances with 538 strikeouts and 144 saves.
His 144 saves as a Met ranks up as the third most in franchise history behind John Franco (276) and Armando Benítez (160).

And when it comes to 2025, his statistics went as follows—1.63 ERA, 28 saves out of 31 opportunities, 98 strikeouts with a 0.874 WHIP over 62 appearances.
Based on a report from New York Post’s Joel Sherman following the news on Tuesday, the Mets’ offer for Díaz before the three-time All-Star signed with the Dodgers included “three-years at $66M with modest deferrals.”
