FLUSHING, NY — One could argue that the atmosphere at Citi Field this past Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening was the most electric and loudest Queens has witnessed since 2015, a year in which the New York Mets caused the Big Apple to buzz with overwhelming postseason excitement traveling through the air — winning the National League pennant, and appearing in the franchise’s fifth-ever Fall Classic.

Approximate Attendance for Saturday & Sunday – Phillies-Mets in Queens

Saturday, September 21: 44,152 (fourth sellout at Citi Field this season, largest Citi Field crowd of 2024 season, fifth-largest crowd in Citi Field history for a regular season game)

Sunday, September 22: 43,139 (fifth sellout at Citi Field this season)

The Amazin’ are nowhere close to punching their much-desired World Series ticket, however, the fight and will to win from this Mets team has them vying for the first stage of that potential October run — currently tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second National League Wild Card spot, and up two-games on the Atlanta Braves for the third and final NL Wild Card spot before their crucial three-game set at Truist Park starting this Tuesday, September 24th.

And with that genuine fight and will to win on the field, comes a passionate fan base willing to give it their all from their seats.

“The crowd is into every pitch, every play, every inning, every at-bat — that’s what you dream of,” said Mets manager Carlos Mendoza following Sunday night’s 2-1 win over Philadelphia. “You prepare, you work hard all year, all offseason, to get to this position.”

“It’s playoff baseball, that atmosphere out there tonight was unbelievable,” stated Brandon Nimmo, who contributed to the victory with a solo-blast off of All-Star right-hander Zack Wheeler in the bottom of the sixth inning. “This is what you play for so you just got to enjoy the moment… and you know, it’s gonna be a lot of fun in Atlanta.”
