BRONX, NY — The New York Yankees’ offense stole the show Tuesday night in the Bronx, making sure their 3-0 first inning deficit against the Texas Rangers would quickly be forgotten.

Cody Bellinger stepped up to the plate and nearly brought himself in with Aaron Judge in the first by smacking a double that hit off to the top of the right center field wall. The Yankees had some life from there, but Jacob deGrom escaped the inning with just that one run allowed.

In the second, things got more serious when Ryan McMahon launched a two-run home run to tie the game up at three.

It was McMahon’s third home run of the season, providing a surprising jolt at the bottom of the order.

The game would stay deadlocked for a while as deGrom would find his groove until he surrendered a solo home run to Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the sixth. The Yankees were up 4-3 after his homer with the momentum of the game completely flipped in their favor.

“It feels great, it’s been feeling like when I hit the ball it hasn’t been working out, but finally got one I could handle and hit a homer,” Chisholm Jr. said in the postgame.

The Yankees’ offense gave their pitching staff the ability to regroup after a tough first inning of work from rookie right-hander Elmer Rodríguez who made his Yankee Stadium debut (4.2 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 4 BB and 2 K). Scoring six runs on deGrom on the night, Bellinger later hit an RBI double against Jalen Beeks that allowed the runners the former two-time NL Cy Young Award winner left on base to score.

The Yankees are at the top of the MLB in home runs with 60 and second with 191 runs, helping New York jump out to a 25-11 start, which is the best in the American League. Their OPS of .797 is tied for second in MLB with the Los Angeles Dodgers, as both teams trail the Atlanta Braves at .802.

The most surprising stat is the 38 stolen bases from the Yankees, which is also tied for second in MLB with the Brewers and only behind the Marlins (39).

Bellinger added two more runs with a two-run double in the seventh, and Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo home run in the eighth. Closer David Bednar, securing the 7-4 win, came on for a five-out save and gave up one run.

“Unbelievable game,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “In the first there, we’re short in the pen and you’re just thinking of ways you hopefully can finish the game. Credit to Elmer for picking himself up and giving us 4.2 after a rough start. And then so many good at-bats to pull us back and take the lead. Then the pen did a great job of just handing it off to one another. That’s a really good one right there.”

The Yankees, outscoring the Rangers 7-3 after trailing 3-0 in the first, have won five in a row and taken three out of four from the Rangers this season.
