NEW YORK, NY — While walking from the Mets’ clubhouse out to the diamond to get a workout in at Citi Field earlier this month as Francisco Lindor was progressing his way back from a severe left calf strain, Latino Sports informed the Puerto Rican superstar shortstop of significant news regarding one of his close friends and fellow Boricua Amanda Serrano, a Puerto Rican superstar in the boxing ring.

On that day, Serrano, known as ‘The Real Deal,’ the first-ever undisputed Puerto Rican champion, standing at 49-4-1 with 32 career knockouts—was named to TIME100’s List of the Most Influential People in Sports for 2026—featuring some of the most impactful individuals in the world of sports.

A trailblazer for women across all sports but especially in boxing, Serrano joined Oleksandr Usyk and Dana White as the only three combat sports figures to appear on the inaugural TIME100 Sports list.

“It makes me proud. It makes me proud of who she has become and because she’s a great role model,” said a smiling Lindor, already hearing the news during his commute to the ballpark.

“And she’s gonna help the next generation. She’s somebody that every Puerto Rican can’t wait to watch her do her thing.”

The 32-year-old native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, and Serrano, 37, born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, have continually supported each other throughout their respective careers, praising one another’s accomplishments and achievements nearly each time it calls for on their social media platforms.

Long story short. Fast forward to this past Sunday afternoon, Serrano posted on her X account, formerly known as Twitter, acknowledging Lindor’s message via Latino Sports.

“Wow I miss this, just saw it. Thanks Buddy 🙏” -Amanda Serrano on her X/Twitter profile
