NEWARK, NJ — The New Jersey Devils showcased resilience and determination in their 3-2 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. This triumph not only extended their home winning streak to six games but also served as a robust response to their recent 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers.

The game reached its climax when forward Stefan Noesen netted a power-play goal 3:19 into overtime, capitalizing on a tripping penalty drawn by Jack Hughes. This marked Noesen’s 17th goal of the season and his first career overtime goal, breaking Tampa Bay’s impressive streak of 18 consecutive penalty kills.

Jack Hughes continued to demonstrate his offensive prowess, contributing a goal late in the second period and an assist on the game-winner. Ondrej Palat opened the scoring for the Devils, while Jesper Bratt provided two assists, further solidifying his role as a key playmaker.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom was instrumental between the pipes, recording 23 saves, including a crucial stop against Brayden Point in the third period to maintain the tie.

This victory was particularly significant as it followed a challenging 1-4-1 road trip. Returning to home ice, the Devils demonstrated renewed energy and focus, attributes that have been pivotal throughout their strong season. Currently, the Devils hold a 25-15-4 record, placing them third in the Metropolitan Division with 54 points.

The Devils’ special teams were a decisive factor in the win, as their penalty kill successfully neutralized Tampa Bay’s power play, and their own power play proved lethal in overtime.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe praised his team’s discipline and execution, stating, “our ability to capitalize on the power play and shut down their opportunities was the difference tonight.”

Looking ahead, the Devils aim to maintain their momentum as they continue their home-stand. With upcoming games against formidable opponents such as Tuesday’s game versus the defending champ Florida Panthers, sustaining this level of play will be crucial for their aspirations to secure a top spot in the division.

In summary, the Devils’ overtime win against the Lightning not only avenged their prior loss to the Rangers but also underscored their resilience and capability to perform under pressure.

As the season progresses, maintaining this form will be essential for their pursuit of playoff success.
