LOS ANGELES, CA — The Seattle Mariners play the Dodgers in the last game of a three-game series tonight after losing the first two games. How are the Mariners even in second place in the AL West one game over .500 when, as a team, they are batting .216, two percentage points under the God-awful 31-97 White Sox, who have been mathematically eliminated from the postseason? Well, you see, they are ranked number one in all of baseball in all the pitching stats that matter.
They are number one in all of baseball in opponents batting average at .224, Number one in ERA at 3.51, and Whip at 1.10. They are led by tonight’s starter, Logan Gilbert, who has an ERA of 2.96. Followed by 2023 Latino MVP Starting Pitcher Luis Castillo, Bani, Dominican Republic, and reliever Andrés Muñoz, Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, who has a 1.88 ERA.
In the top of the second inning, the Mariners leadoff hitter, newly acquired Randy Arozarena, Havana, Cuba, was hit by Dodger starter Jack Flaherty. Arozarena stood at home for a long time and just stared at Flaherty before he slowly walked to first base. When Arozarena flew out to end the next inning, something happened between Flaherty and Arozarena, and both dugouts emptied, as well as both bullpens, but nothing other than friendly discussions about how amazing the weather is in Southern California was said.

With a 3-1 lead going into the fifth inning, the Dodgers exploded for five runs to take an 8-1 lead. The big hit came from Max Muncy, who doubled down the line in right field with the loaded bases, scoring all three runners.

Muncy returned Monday after being out since May 17 with an oblique strain; in that Monday night game, he hit a crucial two-run home run that sealed a win for LA, and tonight, that bases-clearing double put the game out of reach for this sinking Mariners who were swept in this three-game series. Que the Titanic music!
