Players to Watch: Juan Soto marks his name in MLB history and 2021 NLCS MVP, Eddie Rosario

New York- Earlier this week at Truist Park, the defending World Series Champions, Atlanta Braves hosted Juan Soto and the Washington Nationals for a three-game NL East division series. It’s funny to say young for Juan Soto; however, the 23-year-old superstar continues to make history in the record books. On Tuesday night in the top of the 6th inning, Soto demolished a home run into deep right-center field. This marked his 100th home run of his career. Among active players, Soto is the second youngest player in MLB history to hit one hundred home runs behind Miguel Cabrera (23 years old, 127 days). From Venezuela, “Miggy” Cabrera completed the feat forty-two days quicker than Soto (23 years old, 169 days).

Juan Soto – Latino Sports 32nd Annual National League Most Valuable Player

Soto is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. There’s only a select few who are must see television each and every at-bat. One being, the incredible Juan Soto. His cocky, yet intimidating and dominant approach in the batters-box is a sight to see.

Soto was one of the most pivotal players down the stretch in the Nationals 2019 World Series Championship run. In 17 postseason games, he totaled 5 home runs, 14 runs batted in and 18 hits as the Nationals won their first World Series in franchise history.

Eddie Rosario – Guayama, Puerto Rico

Rosario made a name for himself this past postseason as the Braves made their historic run to a World Series title. In the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rosario had a .560 batting average with 9 runs batted in. In twenty-five at-bats in the series, Rosario totaled 14 hits. He was named the NLCS Most Valuable Player.

During the offseason, Rosario re-signed with Atlanta to a two-year deal for a total of $18 million. He provides flexible movement for Braves manager, Brian Snitker in the lineup construction and position layout within the outfield.

The Nats scored a total of 18 runs in the 3-game set with key offensive performances from Josh Bell, Maikel Franco, and Lane Thomas. In his fifth year as Nationals manager, Davey Martinez has a lineup that includes versatile offensive talents in the box as well as on the bases. In the series-finale on Wednesday afternoon, Nationals starting pitcher Josiah Gray totaled 5.1 innings and five strikeouts with only one hit allowed. In their first two series of this young season, the Nationals came to a 3-4 record on the year.

Next up for the Washington Nationals: 4-game series @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Despite losing two of three in the series, Atlanta will be just fine. The Braves surged to a 16-run outing on Tuesday night. Left-fielder Marcell Ozuna had an incredible game offensively. In the bottom of the 4th and again in the 5th inning, Ozuna hit a pair of solo home runs. He finished the night with three hits and two runs batted in. Ozzie Albies hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Braves, with a 3-4 record look to get comfortable as the regular season continues to ramp up.
