NEW YORK, NY — Thirty-four prospects, among them the Islanders’ No. 1 overall draft pick Matthew Schaefer, attended the team’s development camp at Northwell Health Ice Center. With Cole Eiserman, Calum Ritchie, and Isaiah George, they participated in skating drills, game situations, and one-on-one Drills with the goaltenders.
Because he played 33 games for the Islanders last season, George was assigned to the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders. They selected George in the fourth round in 2022. NHL Draft.
“It’s a good change of pace,” George said. “I’m never content with my game, I want to get better.” “Everything was positive; I gained valuable NHL experience and training last season.” George continued, “The game has slowed down since I came to camp last season. You get comfortable, you get used to the speed, I’m firing on all cylinders, feel super comfortable”
The first selection in this year’s NHL Draft, Schaefer said, “I love playing hockey, I love being in the game. Practices are part of the game. Schaefer also said” I got to make the team and I want to make the opening night roster.”

Helped him mature. He is a phenomenal skater. He cares, and he wants it.”
